We love having visitors here in Oregon. My brother and dad were visiting Shane and I two weeks ago and I knew they would be up for living reckless. Listening to them talk about motorcycles and cars I knew riding ATVs out on the Oregon Coast would be right up their alley.
We left Portland in the morning and headed out to the coast. We headed south on highway 101; a scenic highway that runs along the Oregon Coast and offers some amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. We had to stop every few miles to take pictures of the amazing view, the next one better than the last. My brother and dad both said throughout the drive; “Man, this would be fun on a motorcycle.”
We decided to rent ATVs just south of Florence in the Oregon Sand Dunes National Recreation Area. It was an awesome way to spend an afternoon! We rented the ATVs from Sand Dunes Frontier (which was right off highway 101 – you can’t miss them) and after a quick safety tutorial we were handed the keys to our ATVs. One of the employee’s from the rental company led us out to the starting point and we were off!
White sand dunes as far as the eye could see served as our playground. The three of us were a dune-jumping adrenaline-seeking caravan. We all got stuck at some point during the 60 minutes we had in the dunes, but with some teamwork we were able to pull the ATVs out and keep going. It was beyond fun! If you’re ever in the area and looking for something off the beaten path, this is one thing to check out. I suggest getting to the rental company early, as they are a first-come first-serve company.
