Had a great weekend in Central Oregon with Jenna, Nathan, Allison, Nils and his sister Anna. Camped at Skull Hollow with the grazing cows. Was the first time they had actually grazed through our campground made all sorts of noises to let us know they weren't happy we were invading their space.
Friday night Jenna and I met Nathan at Skull Hollow while Nils, Allison, and Anna went sunset climbing in Smith Rock. We were indecisive AF and it took over an hour to find a spot that didn't have many cows, their pies, or bugs. We ending up find a pretty schweet spot on the top of the hill, the climbing group met us for drinks and a fire and we hit the hay.
The next morning Jenna and I set out to find a lake to lay out by while the others went climbing in Smith Rock. We decided on Elk Lake, which is a part of the entire Cascade Lakes area. It's a really nice lake but definitely crowded. We bought a few floaties and messed with Finn (who hates the water, and is scared of everything in general).
After a few beers and time in the sun, we met-up with the climbing crew in bend on the Deschutes River. Took some naps and decided to get some taco's at El Sancho, which is on my top 5 list of best taco joint's I've visited. While eating top notch taco's, we decided to take a sunset hike in Smith Rock. The vies of Smith Rock were amazing as usual. We were able to see in order; Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top, South Sister, Middle Sister, North Sister, Mt. Washington, Black Butte, Three Fingered Jack, Mt. Jefferson, Ollalie Butte, & Mt. Hood.
After making it back to the campsite, we had a quick fire and a few drinks and went to bed early. Nils, Allison and Anna decided to do some early climbing in Smith Rock again while we were lame and drove back to Portland early. On the way back to Portland Jenna and I stopped at a cute little sandwich spot in Government Camp for lunch and coffee. I believe the name was called High Mountain Cafe. All in all, it was a great little weekend of camping and enjoying the outdoors. Also, it was SUPER hot this weekend. Temperatures were threatening 100 degrees.
