New Year's "Resolution"

It's a new year and with it comes the typical resolutions, abandoned by the wayside a few weeks into February ...if you're lucky! A recent study by the University of Scranton concluded that 92% of resolutions fail within the first month of January. I've never been a fan of making New Year's resolutions because I personally feel like they're garbage. Most people set a weight loss goal and end up wasting a lot of money on a gym membership.  I have no interest in setting a resolution, but I do want to make some general adventure goals in the New Year.

Jenna and I had an amazing 2015, adjusting to life in the amazing Pacific Northwest! We traveled to many awesome destinations in Oregon and Washington State! Some of the highlights include; climbing Mt St. Helen's and South Sister, camping on the Pacific Coast, and hiking on numerous popular trails in Central and Southern Oregon! However, towards the end of the year I kept feeling like we were following in millions of footsteps. People are starting to discover the “secret beauty” of the Pacific Northwest (us included) which results in more foot traffic on trails and campsites.

There was one specific incident that really stands out. Traveling to Trillium lake last year I remember being so disgusted with the amount of people. There were many buses and hordes of tourists scrambling around like a feeding frenzy. It reminded me of a shopping mall on Christmas Eve or navigating through a crowded bar. All we wanted to do was take a nice relaxing hike around a lake and get a view of Mt. Hood. We like to escape the hustle and bustle of the city to get away from it all, not to be bitch-slapped in the face with it.

That's why my adventure goal (resolution), is to create my own trail, or at least explore trails less traveled. (insert any cheesy quote here). The Dog Breath Industries (DBI) crew will hopefully be a big part of these backpack adventures. I want to explore the parts of Oregon that aren't plastered everywhere on Instagram, Facebook, or searched on "The Google". We have a shiny new camera this year as well, so don't be a stranger! Check in from time-to-time and see where our feet take us in the New Year! Have a great 2016 everyone and remember to Live Reckless!
